What Are All-on-4 Dental Implants?

All-on-4 implants have also been called full-arch implants. The dentist strategically embeds four titanium implants in the jawbone and then attaches to them a denture plate. These replace the complete set of teeth, thereby restoring the functionality of the bite and appearance of the smile.

All-on-4 is considered an effective solution to restore missing teeth. This solution minimizes the need for bone graft since dentists can choose the densest part of the jaw to place the implant. However, it does involve a minor surgery of two hours.

The Procedure of All-on-4 Dental Implants

An All-on-4 dental implant procedure is performed under sedation to make the patient comfortable. Then, a digital scan is taken of the teeth and jaw, which helps in determining the placement of the posts. The dentist also prepares an arch by removing the remaining broken or damaged teeth as well as the infected tissue.

After performing the examination, the procedure begins by making a small cut in the gum tissue to expose the jawbone. Then, a hole is drilled in the jawbone, and the implant is screwed in it. These implants are screwed in such a way to ensure stability and minimize tension on the bone while biting or chewing.

The dentists then connect the abutment with this post. It acts as an attachment between the denture plates and implants. These plates can not be removed and function exactly like your natural teeth.

Who Can Go For All-on-4 Implants?

Patients who have lost all or most of their teeth in one arch, have experienced jaw bone loss, have gum disease, or suffered from dental trauma or damage to the jaw muscles should go for All-on-4 dental implants. It is a very convenient and comfortable dental procedure compared to placing dentures or bridges.
